Lunden, Eldrid

Eldrid Lunden (b 1940) entered the literary scene in 1968 with the poetry collection F.EKS. JULI. She was instantly labelled a "female poet", and her poems were interpreted from a feminist perspective. In the 60s, Lunden was part of the circle surrounding the literary magazine PROFIL. In 1982, she helped to establish the esteemed school for creative writing Forfatterstudiet i Bø, where she has been director ever since. In 1996 she became Norway’s first and only Professor of Creative Writing.

Today Lunden is perceived as one of the main trend-setters within Norwegian and Nordic poetry, after 20 years as a central poet, critic essay-writer and pedagogue. Her poems have been translated into several languages, and she has received numerous literary prizes, among them the prestigious Brage Honorary Prize in 2000.
