Wardenær, Torild

Torild Wardenær (b. 1951) is a full-time author living in Stavanger, Norway. Wardenær debuted in 1994 with a collection of poems entitled In Pioneer Times, followed by five notable collections, including The Paradise Effect in 2004. In 1998 she made her debut as a dramatist with two short plays at the Norwegian Dramatist Festival and at Rogaland Theater's Theater Workshop. She has also written a number of one-act plays and a play for children at Theatre Ibsen in 1999.

Wardenær is educated as a teacher, has a degree in Creative Writing, Media and Art History and holds a master degree in Comtemporary Literature. Wardenær has translated American and English poetry, worked as a critic for Stavanger Aftenblad and Klassekampen, worked in teaching and lecturing, and has been engaged in many cooperative projects with artists and musicians. She has also been a guest lecturer at the Skrivekunstakademiet in Hordaland and the Forfatterstudiet in Bø, sat on juries, been a writer in residence in Spain and Scotland, participated in festivals and book events, and been board member of the Pan Poetry Company. The author has had numerous articles printed in Norwegian and international literary magazines and anthologies. She has written texts for photographic exhibitions and art installations and musical events. Her literary productions span widely and include drama, stage productions, essays, adult fiction, lyric poetry, and translation. She has received a number of prizes for her work; notable among them are Herman Wildenvey's poetry award and the Halldis Moren Vesaas prize.
