Markus is King

Hagerup, Klaus: Markus er konge

The stories about 13-year-old Markus have been a great success, internationally as well as in Norway. Here is the sixth book of the series.

This time, Sigmund gives Markus a chess board. Sigmund sees himself as the castle in the chess game, and he sees Markus as a little king that needs protection. In Sigmund’s mind, the school yard is the chess board. This is the source of a lot of amusement – and even love, actually. You don’t need to know chess at all to enjoy this story.

Klaus Hagerup hits the target - as usual. He has written a warm and humorous book that young people will recognise themselves in. With zing and ingenuity he wraps Markus in a web of lies and challenges that culminates in a real brawl. Markus is King doesn't stand in the shadow of the other books in the series – quite the contrary. Would that there were even more.
