One day when she comes home from school, Dad isn’t himself – he has gotten sick. Soon, Dad is so ill that he has to go to the hospital, and Tiril has to move to her mother’s. When Dad dies, everything changes. Mom is too involved in work, Tiril misses her home. She misses Dad, but now that he is dead he lives in the Land of Moonlight. How will she get there to see him again?
The Land of Moonlight is a brave book about loss and longing in a child who loses the one she is closest to in the world. Openly and perceptively, Gunn Hild Lem shows how a little girl experiences the loss of her father, and how she processes her grief by using her imagination, in order to come to terms with his passing.
