I Love You

Hagerup, Hilde: Jeg elsker deg

Ellen has a mother who loves her. And Ellen loves her mother too. But her mother is ill, and for months now she has just been sitting in the yellow chair or lying in her bed.

Ellen decides that she needs to be loved by more people than only her mother. She has to find somebody else. But it’s not easy finding a stand-in just like that. It’s made even more difficult by the fact that Ellen not only misses her mother, she also struggles with communicating with anybody else than her mother. Or as a neighbour says about her: “She has certain special needs”.

Praise for I Love You:

" I Love You is a small and intense novel about Ellen's desperate attempts to find a stand-in love when her mother gets seriously ill. (...) The book must be a find to educationalists and other carers who want to communicate with younger readers about a difficult subject."
