Dead Angle

Baugstø, Line: Dødvinkel

Outside an ordinary looking office there is a small sign that reads "Ragna sees you". In this office, the clairvoyant Ragna receives her clients: unhappy people who come to hear that everything has a meaning, and that there is more to life than just coincidence. They come to Ragna to be seen. Stella is forty and divorced, with a demanding ten-year-old daughter. Stella is possessed by Knut, who is married. They explore an intensely erotic and absorbing relationship - a telephone relationship, where they listen, but never touch. But Stella longs for more, and she hopes Ragna can tell her whether she and Knut have a future together. Stella gets no answer, however, for the session is abruptly cut off when Ragna has a frightening vision. In a sensual prose, Line Baugstø has created a magical, erotic, and bold novel, where the winter is so cold that birds freeze to death, where smells are stronger and sorrow keeps the apples from rotting. A novel about longing and dreams, about human limitations, about wanting to be seen, but perhaps not being able to see.
