Ludvig Hassel at the Turn of the Millennium

One dark December evening in 1998 Ludvig Hassel, an art historian, receives a surprise visit from his daughter and her new boyfriend. The discovery that Arvid Buvik - in professional terms his keenest rival - may become his son-in-law puts much in Hassel's life to the test, including his artistic-aesthetic ideals, his perception of himself as a man, and his relationship with the family he left and with the young woman who precipitated his divorce.
