Her Own Life
Elstad, Anne Karin: Sitt eget livThis novel is a continuation of Later, Lena, and is the story of the confrontation between Lena and Kjell. Lena’s visions of a “fair” divorce soon fall away. Kjell’s only concern is his own blamelessness. Moreover, Lena has to fight a sturdy wall of condemnation and rejection from family, friends and outsiders, because she is the one leaving. We follow Lena from the separation and five years onward. Her relationships to the three children, the local environment and work are central. Her development towards greater independence is hard, but she manages to follow her own chosen path, and also live through another love story.
