The author's first book about Julie and her life spans the period from 1918 to 1920, and is set in the north-western parts of Norway. Eighteen-year-old Julie comes from bad circumstances and takes up a job as a shop assistant and a maid servant. She enjoys her life and feels that she has her whole life in front of her. Everything suddenly changes when her sister falls ill and Julie has to move back home to help her parents.

Julie is a book that revolves around a young woman's longings and expectations, and her discovery of love.
