India, 1973. Akas and Sorj are seven and nine years old, living in a small village in Punjab at the Pakistani border. Their father, Harjeet Singh, has enlisted in the army, to add to his meagre farmer’s income. One day he receives an offer to go to Norway, a country nobody in the family has ever heard of before. In Norway he will get the opportunity to work in a factory and make as much money in a month as he does during an entire year in the army. The deal is that Harjeet will stay for two years and then go back. The brothers stay in the village with their mother, longing for the day when their father will return. But for Harjeet the stay in Norway gets consequences nobody could have predicted.
