Beginning in November
Gjeitanger, Anne: Begynnelse i novemberTale has moved away from Thomas and his son, for whom she has been a kind of mother, and is now living in an artist commune in Italy. She is trying to settle in as an artist and as a pronounced and independent member of the commune. At the same time she is struggling to figure out what kind of relationship she and nine-year-old Erlend will have now. While Tale is getting to know the North Italian rural district, she discovers a small church with a figure of Madonna with a black face. This will have great significance to her and her work.
Anne Gjeitanger writes perceptible, reflecting prose that carefully discloses ways to understand human maturation and will of realisation. With precision and wealth of nuance it is explored whether there historically are other and liberating ways to define oneself as a woman, which at the same time involve possibilities to surrender to love.
Praise for Beginning in November:
“Every word of this book is chosen carefully. Gjeitanger is an unusually conscious writer with an impressive linguistic calm and confidence. She knows a lot. And she writes well about colours, feelings, moods, nature and love”
