19 year old Isak Mår lives with his father, a celebrated actor, and his father’s new girlfriend, Eivor, who is only a few years older than Isak. The novel takes place during 24 hours, when Isak is about to discover his feelings for Eivor. The young film worker is daydreaming about making his own film based on the dramatic story of a Venetian trade ship which stranded in Northern Norway in 1432. Two time planes are woven together in the novel, while the relationship between father and son grows ever more tense.
