The Marathon Gentleman

The former senior humorist Magnus Wormdal has put the humour behind him. After having escaped to London to get out of testifying in a murder case and becoming a celebrity by means of an unreliable friend, he decides to disappear. He wants to do it all in style, like the Japanese Siso Kanakuri did in the Olympic marathon in Stockholm in 1912. Wormedal signs up for the Oslo Marathon and starts training, because even though he plans to disappear during the race, he wants to do it knowing he could have finished it.
