The Queens saga

Henriksen, Vera: Dronningsagaen

Two widowed queens have settled down near Skara in Sweden: Astrid, widow of King Olav Haraldsson – Saint Olav – and Gunnhild, widow of the Swedish King Anund Jakob. It is the middle of the 11th Century, and the Irish slave Kefse is ordered to write down the story of Astrid and King Olav. During his work, the slave starts being haunted by his past, from the time before he was taken prisoner and made a slave – the time he was a powerful man home in Ireland.
