Snow Subdues Sound, Wood Encloses

Ingebrigtsen, Eirik: Snø dempar lyd, tre lukkar inne

In the novel Snow Subdues Sound, Wood Encloses we follow three men, from three generations – the grandfather, Johan, the father, Einar and the son, Sigurd – on a cold winter day. In a confident prose and with great authority Ingebrigtsen varies between the different minds and shows how they evolve around each other, when at the same time they do not have much contact – physically or emotionally. A beautiful and tender novel about male helplessness; about three men who are troubled by the loss of a wife and a mother, and who struggle to get in touch with themselves and with each other.

Praise for Snow Subdues Sound, Wood Encloses:

“a beautiful novel about men in transition between the safe and the constant, the loose and chaotic … Both the language and the style show great comprehension of how thoughts evolve … Snow Subdues Sound, Wood Encloses is a good and beautiful novel.”
(Morgenbladet)

”Powerful images and convincing portrayals … It is impressive how Ingebrigtsen portrays people in such a wide range of age, from the inside of their minds, and shows three decent people doing their best to stay on their feet … A wise and good book which definitely puts this author among those we want to keep an eye on in the years to come”
(Aftenposten)

”An excellent story of tragedy and triviality … Vivid to read here and now, but also a book which will stick with the reader long after it has been consumed”
(D agbladet)
