Cretan Days

Nilsen, Tove: Kreta-døgn

Cretan Days is Tove Nilsen's tribute to the Greek island of Crete, where she has been a regular visitor for over twenty-five years and which she has developed a close relationship to. In this novel, which she calls "an outdoor book", the literary and personal strands are interwoven to provide warm and vivid portraits of people and places - all changing over time - and all depicted with a twinkle in the eye. We follow the author Tove and her boyfriend, "T", on a journey through what was once known as "The Isle of Happy People".
A pensive travel story, Cretan Days is an exercise in wonderment and the urge to always press onwards.

Praise for Cretan Days:

"... sensual, entertaining, well-crafted and life-affirming"
(Dagbladet)

"A delightful book about an island embraced with all the author's senses, written with verve and a redeeming candour. (...) "Kreta-døgn" is no ordinary travelogue, not by a long chalk"
(Aftenposten)

"...Tove Nilsen creates contrasts and tensions that make us feel other people's pain, and consider the questions raised by modern tourism. Tove Nilsen's down-to-earth, fresh language makes the 260 pages an easy read"
(Vårt Land)

"... a declaration of love to an area on the fringes of Europe, influenced by the Mediterranean mentality and with North African elements... A must-read for everyone who travels to Crete"
(Sarpsborg Arbeiderblad)
