G for George

Nilsen, Tove: G for Georg

There are a few weeks left of the summer holidays, and Tove and her parents are visiting her grandmother and grandfather. She sneaks off, and with a single phone call, she has turned the idyllic holiday into something that only applies to the others. Goggen has been put in an institution, and soon he is fleeing from the police, his parents and school – Tove is the only one he trusts.

G for George picks up just about where the last novel Summer of Skyscrapers left off. But this novel can also be read independently – as a novel about a few weeks late in summer when innocence is lost and an overwhelming gravity takes over the lives of two teenagers – written with the empathy and a linguistic exuberance that has long ago become Tove Nilsen’s trademark.

Praise for G for George:

”This is a pulsating novel, which with its many complicated experiences and unassertive, trembling feelings seems close, naked, real.”
(Stavenger Aftenblad)

“Tove Nilsen writes forcefully. It is partly funny and definitely serious, the time and place is right. It’s simply great.”
(Aftenposten)

“Tove Nilsen is supreme in her description of the chaos in Tove’s gifted mind. There are battles between virtue and mischievous rebellion, fantasy and reality, Dostojevskij and movie star romance, the child and the woman. This is delightful reading.”
