Brothers

Pedersen, Erling: Brødre

Anna, a widow, lives on a smallholding deep within the recesses of the Romsdal fjord with her youngest son, Erlend, and his family. Slowly and painfully she comes to terms with the loss of her husband and begins to build up a life of her own. Erlend, disappointed at not being permitted to take over the farm, moves away. Anna's eldest son, Johannes, is a farmer in Finnmark, in the far north, where he has devoted all his energies to maintaining a farm which eventually succumbs to social changes. Thor, the middle son, is the one who, in his own way, ensures the family's continuance.
