Uglybugly
Ramslie, Lars: UglybuglyEarl and Betty are Siamese twins. They have tried to make a living as circus artists and freaks, but are constantly being excluded by the other performers. The twins are too weird, even for other freaks. Besides, Earl is not humble enough, he dreams of making it big, and is getting tired of his religious sister. Between them, they have a third hand which neither of them can control. Uglybugly is a burlesque fable and a novel about physical and social degradation. In a strange and opposing way, this is also a novel about human dignity.

Praise for Uglybugly:
"A burlesque and dark fable. Ramslie’s fifth book has a raw and musical rhythm... As in Ramslie’s other books there is also in Uglybugly an intense preoccupation with physical, bodily details, deformations, amputations, dysfunctions and all variants of the human body. The descriptions are raw and rough and are supported by the almost musical pressure which has made Ramslie’s prose so special from the very start"
(Dagbladet)
"The cast of charachters in Ramslie’s book is unparalleled in new Norwegian novels. One has to go to newer, relatively raving American films to find anything like it.... Ramslie has written a very good story about a very abnormal pair of twins"
