À la Doube

Stubberud, Tore: Kjøtt i mørke

Two men and a woman flee from a disintegrating community to a remote mountain region in the south of France. There they live close to nature and the animals in an enchanting natural world. They rediscover what the world tastes like from within. It is a life characterized by a combination of pleasure and loathing.
À la Doube is a poetic-philosophical book. It is about a meat dish that is a culinary delight; it is also about exploring one’s physical feelings. Moreover, it is an original and personal novel which, critical as it is of civilization, portrays the body as the last bastion in the struggle against power and control. It is a weird, powerful book.

Praise for "À la Doube":

"an absolutely wonderful read... and an interesting reminder that the novelistic genre is forever renewable." (Klassekampen)

"a novel severely critical of civilization...written with a twinkle in the eye and a wry slant on the subject...entertaining reading altogether." (Dagbladet)
