Olav Audunssøn and his Children

Undset, Sigrid: Olav Audunssøn og hans barn

In this follow-up to OLAV AUDUNSSØN OF HESTVIKEN, Olav continues his struggle to understand life and the powerful forces that drives man. Olav wants to live a good and righteous life, but his internal struggle between his own will and God’s law is strong and dangerous. At first Olav try to explain away his own guilt, blaming God and his surroundings for all the bad things that happen, and for the negative influence his own deeds have on his childrens’ lives. But in the end he realizes his own need for forgiveness, confession and doing penance.

In 1928, Undset won the Nobel Prize for Literature for her medieval novels about Kristin Lavransdatter and Olav Audunssøn.
