Two Blue Shoes

Vallersnes, Eli Sol: To blå

Mie’s story begins the day she decides to become pregnant. At the same time as her new life takes shape, the story of her upbringing unravels and she has to try to understand how everything started. Was it when her mother was in the sitting room with the Russian ladies performing small ballet steps, or was it when her mother met her father and he gave her the blue ballet shoes with the ribbons?

Mie’s child is born, but as everyone bends over the baby smiling, the feeling that something is not right becomes stronger – there was something she hadn't found in the large photo albums, in her father’s stories, in her mother’s arms as they opened in a gesture of ignorance ... and it is while she is searching that Mie’s own story emerges. It is the story of how she felt the burden of the unsaid, of how she forced out secrets and defined a new role for herself.
