EEK!! A Dialogue
Høvring, Mona: IIK! Ein dialogIn her debut collection of poetry, Mona Høvring gives a reply to the greek poet Arkhilokhos (born 600 BC) and the poems he wrote about Neobulé, who he had been engaged to. In EEK!! A Dialogue Neobulé speaks across the centuries. The poems explore the female compared to the male, how the two sexes define themselves and each other. A fight takes place in these poems, but also an attempt to get the other sex to speak. The emotional range is large: There is despair and rage, helplessness and control. The language is playful and lavish, filled with sudden turns and changing moods. It is disrespectful and traditional at the same time, and testifies to a writer with a sharp eye for the poetic situation and a perfectly tuned ear for the poetic statement.
Praise for EEK!! A Dialogue:
“Høvring is one of this fall’s absolute finds, that’s for sure. Recommended! Beyond any doubt”
(Dag og Tid)
“Unsentimental and playful… a voice which invites new dialogue”
(Vagant)
“With the female main character in this Greek love drama as an axis for her poems, the debutant spins a rather elegant suite of poems about erotica, longing, love, anger and tenderness… This is a mature book, wise and daring”
