New Sexualities

The media overwhelm us with images and stories about sexuality. What is hidden behind the images? Does our sexual modus operandi change? Have women achieved increased sexual freedom?

Over the last decade, Professor Willy Pedersen has published numerous scientific articles on intimate, erotic and sexual development in adolescence and young adulthood. His perspective is that this development mirrors other aspects of society, such as globalisation, postmodernism, the new challenges with regard to ethnic diversity, the introduction of the Internet and mobile telephones; the list goes on. Consequently, the book aims at linking the development of such broad sociological areas to the development in the intimate and erotic domain.

Each chapter is introduced by a photograph, taken by some of the leading photography in Europe and the US, who have a broad experience on the subject. The book primarily targets students and scholars of sociology, but can also be read by anyone with an interest in the interrelations between sexuality, society and intimacy.
