Life's Philosophy

Næss, Arne: Livsfilosofi - Et personlig bidrag om følelser og fornuft

Full title: Life's Philosophy. Reason and Feeling in a Deeper World

"Emotions are often underestimated in life and society today. I wish to encourage people to be more conscious of the decisive role played by emotions in the thoughts and actions of humans.
I believe that many reflect too little on their life and existence. Or perhaps they start too late. There is a great difference between functioning as a human being and being conscious that I am living just now.
I wish to make more people reconsider the direction of their lives and ask themselves: "Do I really want this?". Life's Philosophy is a book in which questions are more numerous and more important than the answers."

In these words Arne Næss (1912), the grand old man of Norwegian philosophy, describes his book "Life's philosophy". The Norwegian edition was published in 1998 and rapidly climbed to the top of the bestseller lists. In less than a year, more than 100.000 copies were sold in Norway, and the interest in his other contributions in philosophy, written in Norwegian, German and English, and translated into many languages, were met with renewed interest from growing audiences of younger admirers and students.

"Through his contagious enthusiasm, his personal examples and his convincing argumentation, Næss makes me reflect upon my own life, my own choices…This is a book with a profound long-term impact.” ( Helsingborgs Dagblad, Sweden)
