Øyvind Østerud (b. 1944) is a professor of international conflict studies at the Department of Political science, University of Oslo. He is currently leader of the research project "Power and Democracy" (1998-2003) appointed by the Government of Norway. Among his other published works are Towards a Globalized Norway? (Mot et globalisert Norge?, 2001), Globalization of the Nation-State (Globalisering av nasjonalstaten, 1999), What Is Nationalism? (Hva er najsonalisme?, 1994) Studies of War and Peace (1986), and On the Self-Determination of Nations (Nasjonens selbestemmelsesrett, 1984).
