Carl Frode Tiller receives European prize

The names of twelve European authors to receive the first ever European Union Prize for Literature were announced the 16th of July 2009 by the European Commission, the European Booksellers Federation (EBF), the European Writers' Council (EWC) and the Federation of European Publishers (FEP). Carl Frode Tiller with the title "Innsirkling" (Encirclement) was the winner from Norway.

The prizes will be presented during an Award ceremony in Brussels on 28 September.

Commissioner Figel said on this occasion:

“This prize spotlights the excellence of literary talents in Europe and all they have to offer. It shows that Europe is brimming over with creativity. The prize is aimed at getting the works of new authors off the book shelves and into the hands and hearts of people across Europe.''
