SCARY named among best international childrens’ books 2008 in Germany
The respected German website for serious childrens’ books critique has named Hanne and Klaus Hagerup’s SCARY as one of the four best international childrens’ books of 2008.
In their official statement, the jury declares:
“SCARY brings something genuinely literary into childrens’ literature […] The simple, well considered sentences alternate with enthusiastic speech: Stylistically the authors move along paths that are completely their own, and the reader’s experience moves about in the same style. SCARY goes down well with children because it doesn’t care for our daily celebration of the winners, but instead gives a voice to the world that the children themselves experience.”
Librikon is a German internet magazine about childrens’ literature which aims to raise the level of children’s books critique. SCARY was published in German in November 2007, and has been excellently received by German press. The book is about to be published in Russia, Korea and Ukraine.
Other praise for SCARY:
“How this suspenseful story ends, and how the wonderful circus christmas grand galla comes about will not be disclosed here. But you can’t imagine a more surprising and beautiful ending. My word of honour!”
