Villa Europa

Bjørnstad, Ketil: Villa Europa

Villa Europa is an exuberant and lively family epic about four women and four men through a little less than a century, from 1892 to 1991. They all live in the same building, a huge house outside Oslo. As these eight destinies develop in distinctly different directions, a clear pattern emerges: The divide exists not only between the different individuals; it is also present in the form of a deep cleavage between women and men. The author himself characterises this novel, which was first published in 1992, as "a frontal attack on the male culture". It is one of Ketil Bjørnstad’s most important books.
