A Place to Meet

Foldøy, Reidun Elise: Ein stad å møtast

A man is considering jumping on a train to get away from everything. A stewardess ready to go off her shift suddenly gets the responsibility for two kids travelling alone. A writer who lives in Paris returns to his hometown for the first time in 20 years. A single mother is removing the hairs on her legs before the climax of the week – the weekly appointment with her physiotherapist. All of them are comparing themselves to somebody else, all of them long for something else, for a place to meet.

“Beautiful craftsmanship ... There are broken promises, disappointments, sore childhood memories. But Foldøy has an unusually good grip on the short story genre. Efficiency combined with airiness, surprising ruptures, a certain comic quality and elegant transitions.”
