Nils-Fredrik Nielsen,
"It's the small, simple things in life that help to make it so meaningless."
Nils-Fredrik Nielsen (1945-2005) achieved considerable success with his collections of ironic, pessimistic aphorisms (or ”pessigrams” as they have been called in English). The first of four volumes, DET ER ALDRI FOR SENT Å GI OPP, was published in 1993. The impressive sales figures for this book and its sequels prove that Nielsen’s poignant insights fulfil our deep desire to feel sorry for ourselves – ”As long as there is life there is hope of an end”.
Nielsen first came to the attention of the public with his hugely popular, ironic portrait of the ’68 generation in Norway, EKTE SEKSTIÅTTERE SPISER IKKE SEIPANETTER (1984). A sociologist by training, Nils-Fredrik Nielsen possesses a unique gift for exposing human nature in such a way that it makes you want to both laugh and cry.
"It’s a relief to think that human nature is not regarded as part of our culture."
