Saynab - my story
Muhamud, Saynab and Eva Norderhaug: Saynab- min historieSaynab Muhammed is 24 years old. She is originally from Somalia, but has lived in Norway since her father brought her to this country when she was only 8 years old. In this book, she tells us about her introduction to all of the strangers in this cold country way up in the north where everyone had white skin and spoke a foreign language. Saynab also explains how it wasn't always easy to be an immigrant. We read about the difficulties of relating to new customs and attitudes, which are often on a direct collision course with African traditions. We hear about a young adulthood where defiance and conflicts had a really different meaning than for most Norwegian youths.
Saynab has a thought-provoking and gripping story to tell. This has become a book in which one understands the term "a colourful community" in a much more direct way than through well-meant slogans.
