The Last Bear at Vassfaret
Dalbak, Tom H.: Den siste bjørnen i Vassfaret
Espen Alm studies bears at Buskerud University College in Drammen and is sent off to Vassfaret to verify that the bear tribe there has become extinct. However, to his suprise, Espen discovers three bears in the area, all resembling members of his own family. Espen is let go at the college and moves into a well equipped cabin in the forest to observe the bears, keeping alive by poaching and breaking into other cabins. After a while the reader understands that Espen is haunted by the loss of his father, who died young, and his little son, who he is about to lose touch with.
A story about loss and the longing to become the best father in the world, THE LAST BEAR AT VASSFARET is also a tribute to the wilderness about to be lost.
