Gulbranssen, Trygve

Trygve Gulbranssen (1894-1962) was a well-known and respected sports journalist, as well as a businessman, and later a farmer.

The books Beyond Sing the Woods, The Wind from the Mountains and No Way Around, are often referred to as The Bjørndal Trilogy or simply The ‘Beyond Sing the Woods’ Trilogy. It is a family chronicle from the 1700s.

These characteristic books made Trygve Gulbranssen one of Norway’s great authors internationally. The books have been translated into more than 30 languages. In total, he has sold more than 12 million books.

Trygve Gulbranssen was loved by his readers. His books were torn from the shelves. But her received a mixed reviews by critics at the time the books were published. And in the 70s, after his death, he was accused of having expressed fascistoid attitudes in his books. In retrospect, it has become clear that Gulbranssen was no political person, and it is unlikely he wrote to promote any kind of political views.
